  • UVW Map question

I have a plane with a UVW Map attached, set for Planar and 8x8 for Length and Width. The carpet weave looks pretty believable near the product, but where it comes closer to the camera, it looks abnormally large (IMO). Is there any trick to making it look more natural with respect to size? The material is just a diffuse image with a bump map. Would VRay 2D displacement help?

I would use displacement or at least a normal map for the carpet.

I usually reduce the filtering to 0.1 for carpets, that way you can make the UVW size even smaller so it looks good in foreground and with reduced filtering it won't be so blurry at the back.

By reducing filtering, are you talking about BRDF Softness or Diffuse roughness?

I think he means reduce the blur of your bitmap texture of the carpet. Default is 1.0
Right click on the spinner next to it to make it 0.1
          Kind Regards,

Yes, exactly the blur amount from 1.0 (default) I usually change it to 0.1 so it looks sharper in the background. It is located under coordinates tag in the bitmap settings, where you can rotate, mirror or tile your bitmap.
