Normally, like others, I wait until SP1 for any Max release. How are people finding 2016 ?

I am using 2016 for modeling and it's mostly working fine. One thing that seems broken is object import. On a deadline so I didn't have the time to figure out all of the nuances but, in general, not having much success importing fbx or obj files into 3dsmax 2016. They import but don't display. Been using 2015 to import objects from ZBrush.Steve Burke

@Steve: I haven't run into that problem yet. I know that the new STP importer is fantastic! It's now a MUST HAVE feature for me. I also do a LOT of importing with FBX and OBJ, along with IGES and SAT files. All seem to be working great.
Do you have a problematic sample file that I could try out on my end to see if we can troubleshoot the problem?

Move to 2016, and working fine in production (we don't use Backburner). MCG has played a bit on the move, since I had already done a few tools/modifiers (not cloners ) that helped a lot in some projects.Daniel Santana | Co-Founder / Technical Director

Don't you have a big speed problem when you work with groups ?
When i group a bunch of objects (lets say 2-300 teapots) , the viewport is completely lagging or partially freezing for several seconds !
And no problems on 2015 (on a bi xeon workstation with quadro k5000 card...)

Yup, I do have, and reported the problem already, but I do try to stay away from groups , and always say to all the artists here, avoid groups at all cost. I normally attach everything that should go into a group (that makes sense to attach) or use some helpers (and layers) to parent things that should be in groups.Daniel Santana | Co-Founder / Technical Director

yeah, that might be ok for some type of work, but i do mostly product viz, and need top copy/paste re-use some produits accross different scenes, so attaching is no way to go.
it's kind of incredible that nobody never grouped several objects in beta testing and reported this !!

It did work in the beta, this was something that went wrong on the final release. Same for the OSD, it was way faster, and now had some kind of regression.Daniel Santana | Co-Founder / Technical Director

I too avoid groups at all costs. We do a LOT of product viz as well and I have found that I MUCH prefer working with XRefs over anything else. That way my files are smaller and I have a single source for the products. Bind to a dummy and I can move it around as needed.
