3dsmax 2016 installed without errors and seems to be stable. That's a first for several releases. Viewport performance also seems more stable and responsive for me (nvidia quadro) than in 2015. Have not found any crashing bugs yet

Interesting about groups. I hadn't heard that before and tend to use a lot of them. Sounds like it slows down viewport performance and possibly render times? Maybe that's why some of my scenes seem to take longer than they should even on 2014.

I wish that open/close groups could be a right-click function. That would speed things up a lot for me.

Assign open/close to hotkeys and it's faster than using R-Click menus. It's less clicks or keystrokes!

I'm working on a large development and have had nothing but problems with groups when using 3dsmax 2016. It just hangs for ages...crashes and becomes unresponsive for ages. Maybe smaller scenes are better. I've had to switch back to 2014 for now.

the 'group' bug is very annoying, hopefully it'll be rectified in SP1. Grouping is such a simple and easy concept, i'm still finding the layer manager a bit of a struggle coming from 2014, but at least the bug is forcing me to get my head around it...

you have never been able to use groups in max
                nested group are a nightmare
it seems to be something arch vis bros do

I think Autodesk has caught onto people not upgrading until after SP1, so they'll release a SP1 any day now. They probably broke things in purpose

On a separate note from groups, what's with the gigantic, non-scrollable "Assign Renderer" section of the top of the Render Setup dialog?!? What a complete waste of space. Are people changing their render engine that often that it needs to be front and center constantly? Just stupid IMO.

Edit: Just noticed that it's still there/duplicated at the bottom of the rollouts as well! Is there any way to turn off the upper one?

Group problem here too when dealing with large amount of objects grouped in 2016.
Occasionally had the problem before but generally groups worked fine for me, until 2016.

I no!!! Amazingly pointless, they need to put a switch in to get rid of it, maybe on the code its there already. Why would you ever need to change from Vray anyway!!!

Don't really mind the upper one being there, I always thought it was kind of silly being at the bottom really. Even though you might not change renderers that often, it should be one of the first things you change, so it's kind of weird being at the bottom, out of sight, and even a little bit hidden.

Ive been using 2016 in production for a couple weeks now and the only annoying thing that Ive found that hampers production is the hot selection area for the sliders extends all the way across the screen which if you have a few sliders like I do in some of my scenes it can get seriously annoying as they are selected first before everything else.
                            Cheers,

We are having problems with Max 2016. On heavy scenes there is a 1 second donut when selecting any object in the scene. Really annoying. The layer manager isn't great either.
