  • best plugin/script for ruined old brick building?

i have an old warehouse to do, and the brick is being left in existing condition in a few key places. its dirty and random, but has large clearly defined patches of different brick colour.

i can either do some absolutely huge maps, which will be a right pain, or model them and create a pile of individual brick textures. that way i can go in and select the areas of brick that need a different finish.

i thought about floor generator, but a) it always fails for me on complex outline shapes (as in anything with a curve) and b) it only works on horizontal surfaces which is a pain.

ideally id like something i can slap on whole objects and have it deal with the corners etc as well...

    options?

i could try using vraypattern, but i dont think its ideal, plus i was hoping to render this in rt gpu.

that does look extremely cool, what a bonkers script.

-useful for quickly generating the bricks.. however its a bit lacking when it comes to creating the actual walls. ideally i want to either select a modelled wall (including window and door cutouts, and even better faces at 90 degrees to each other, so it will deal with how the bricks wrap around the sides of the building and window recesses) or alternatively i can generate a spline outline including the cutouts. and manually fix the corners.

      im currently investigating atiles:

but even that doesnt seem to deal with corners.

What does the division between the different types of wall look like? Would railclone or displacement be an option?

hm well, patchy is the best way to describe it. the building has one end cut off, and they are leaving the ruined end as a feature in the redevelopment. so there are broken brick butresses sticking out, and different coloured brick where the internal and external brick surfaces meet. plus a load of weathering and repaired patches. even plants growing out of it but i assume thy will remove those.

i really need to be able to edit the bricks manually. to get a reasonably faithful look.

i could paint massive maps for entire facades, and use displacement, but that would be a right pain, and ive still not found a good workflow for generating decent displacement maps from photographed brick textures ( doable on small tiling maps but an entire unique map for a facade..? ) plus im very doubtful i can get decent enough photography on-site. i have to ask client to take it, and there is rather a lot of construction going on.

wrt railclone, it may or may not be able to do this, but i dont think ill have time to learn it.. building model is supposed to be done within a few days.

somebody please write a nice plugin that can take a low poly building shell and clad it properly with bricks? all the ones ive looked at only deal with single planes of bricks, with booleans to cut out openings. that leads to lots of fixing and manual work at every corner and window recess.
