So, would it be safe to say that it's a memory card RAM thing, or a MAX thing? I could purchase a second GTX970, but I don't want to find out the issue is still there.

Another workaround is letting Windows Scale up 200%. By default, it was 150%, and MAX was unusable. Setting it to 100% makes the icons so small you literally can't see them, and the lag was there, only worse. Reading a lot online, people have been complaining about this for a couple years. The issue for years hasn't been large 4K monitors, it has been laptops with hi resolution screens. Apparently now, you can't use MAX on the SurfaceBook, which is all the buzz. Some are saying Autodesk will fix it in v2017, in April, but only for subscribers. I was also reading that Blender is, and has been, 4K compliant. Apparently, all the other major players are 4K complaint and Autodesk is really the only laggards.

I run max on windows 7 with a 32" 4k display at 100% on a quadro k5200 - took a few weeks to get used to but now when I look at my old 30" monitor @ 2560 it looks fuzzy and I can see aliasing on a micro level. Originally I had the 4k monitor setup on a fresh windows 10 install late last year and noticed that some things scaled in max while most didn't (by default windows 10 noticed I had a 4k monitor and made this adjustment). At the time it seemed ridiculous to set everything at 100% when switching to 4k but when I gave up on windows 10 and went back to 7 I didn't know what else to do.

Beginning of this year I assigned the old workstation as a server and hooked up the 2560 30" display along with a vertical 1920 display and I actually find more annoyance going from 4k to the lower resolution display opposed to the other way around which was the opposite when I first switched over to 4k.... It takes some getting used to just like anything else that's new.

It's really not the small icons, it is the lag and eventual non-responding of MAX. Over on LinkedIn, they are saying it isn't a MAX thing, it is a video driver thing. One guy recommended the Radeon R9 390, which has 8GB and is only $339.

Except for the size of the icons and texts, max runs flawlessly in 4K, no lag here on a 980 ti. Your problem isn't max related. I had lag with HDMI but not with display port.

You have a beefier video card, so maybe it's that. I don't think my box has enough space for a second GTX 970, so maybe I need to shelf this one and get a better card.

The really strange thing is 150% scaling doesn't work, however, 200% scaling does. At least I can work, but I would rather it work correctly, with a workaround. What MAX version are you using?

It's hard to imagine that a GTX 970 is struggling compared to a GTX 980ti - the performance of the two isn't that far off. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-...72036823111234

Things were working fine before this 4k monitor arrived? Did you install any drivers that mucked with things?

Believe it or not, I was running with 1 - 24" Dell and everything worked great. I bought the 27" curve because it was affordable, but I didn't like the quality. After seeing things on a 27", compared to a 24", made all the difference, so then I decided on a 29" 4K. The only thing that changed, other than the physical monitor, is the monitors driver. Maybe, I can remove then to see what happens.

Yeah I'd just swap back to another monitor to see if that clears it up. or if there's some monitor drivers conflicting. This probably isn't what you want to hear, but my vote would just be for a 27" monitor that isn't 4k. Something that does 2560 × 1440 seems to be as far as you want to push 3dsmax for now.

I purchased a 27" not too long ago that does 2560 × 1440. It's been treating me well, but it's almost too big for my standing desk and how close I stand to it. Might eventually go back to one or two smaller screens.

I removed the driver that came with the monitor and it didn't help, however, Direct 3D seems to be working. There is a fix for the small icons (3dsmax.exe.manifest), so maybe I found a viable workaround.

If it is Nitrous, and it seem to be the case, that would be a driver issue, correct? Direct 3D works, but doesn't have the features Nitrous has.

You can size up the fonts in the Quad menu in Customize User Interface/Quads/Advanced Options, this helps me a lot using Max in 4K.
Also, my Dell monitor has a menu to enable Display Port 1.2, which was off by default. This was needed to get 60hz refresh rate instead of 30hz.

I just checked and mine is set to DisplayPort 1.2 by default. I'll check out the quad menu settings.

I got some information from NVIDIA, which was great to see. The answer isn't great, the quick reply from an actual person was great. When do companies get so big that they think web forums and other user comments are sufficient. I am not talking about Chaos, they have awesome support, I am talking about Autodesk. Autodesk is like Windows, so what is like Apple in our arena? You pay for high prices software, you should get awesome support. Just the other day I chatted with a live person at Apple and in the past I have scheduled support calls with them. Both Windows and Autodesk seem to be black holes.

                                Hello Bobby,

Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.

This is Ayub, assisting you with the issue you have.

I understand from your email that you are experiencing issues when using Nitrous driver with AutoDesk 3DS MAX.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused but unfortunately since the program developer says that 4K is not yet supported with the program, then the hardware will also not register. For it to work, both the hardware and the software have to be compatible with 4K. The graphics card is compatible but the program isn't, hence the issue.

Even still if you need this to be investigated, I can forward this to the concerned team and they will look into this, but I am not promising a quick resolution, only that this can be looked into and if possible, then resolved in the future with drivers or patches from the software developer itself.

                                Looking forward for your update,

                                Best regards
                                Ayub
