I saw this in the desktop icon's properties. It didn't do anything, but at least they are thinking about making it compatible with high DPI screens.

I have tried everything and what I have landed on is just setting the scale to 200%. Direct 3D doesn't have some of the display options Nitrous has and the icons are still too small. With scaling to 200%, there is no lag and the icons are big enough. I just set it back to 150%, when I exit MAX, for everything else to look good. It would be great if when I launch MAX, it changes and when I exit, it changes it back, but I am not that lazy.

This is a standard windows compatibility dialog...nothing to do specifically with 3ds max.

if you're looking for viewport performance in max then the Quadro line is your best option and offers "price scaling" according to budget.... the response you got back from "Ayub" is a bit discombobulating because you can run max fluidly on a 4k display (across multiple displays with billions of visible polygons).... sounds like he's referring to the "4k scaling UI" issue which you seem to have the most issue with. if 3ds max viewport display performance is the issue then it's your hardware that is struggling to keep up - no doubt about it....

viewport display issues wasn't an issue until I got the new 4K monitor. Direct 3D works just fine, which causes me to think that it is a driver issue.

Also, I had a Quadro K5000 and it didn't perform well at all. The forum here recommended the GTX 970 over the Quadro and I would agree. Up until know, I haven't had an issue.

so in that case the common denominator in all your frustration seems to be the 4k monitor....

Actually, it would be MAX. All my other software looks and runs great. MAX is on record saying that it isn't 4K compliant. I'm content running it at 200% and hopefully 2017 comes with good news on the 4K front.

scaling is a workaround, but isn't the best way to work. Basically, it's like setting a 1920x1080 monitor to display at 800x600. Things get bigger, but look awful. Scaling to 200% just happened to fix my lag, too.

The native scaling is 150% and everything looks great, again, except for 3DS MAX. PhotoShop scales nicely and so does Office, and basically everything else. At 150%, MAX is still far too small and in my case, lags terribly. For me, 200% is the magic for MAX, but everything else gets too big and fuzzy. I'll just work at 200% for MAX and what until MAX 2017 comes out. If MAX 2017 doesn't scale properly, I am going to head up a coup.

Not to beat a dead horse, but it is also odd that you can change the scaling while in MAX and it'll stop the lag without rebooting MAX.

Okay, I just stumbled across this. It lags when I go full screen, but if I minimize it a little, from full screen, it works.

I found another solution. If I rescale the MAX window, to something like 1920 x 1080, things work. I can keep my Windows settings alone and MAX looks and works like it should.
