  • Properly unwrapped cylinder.

    How would I go on about unwrapping a cylinder properly; I don't really see any solution. I'd like to properly map it because materials like marble, and granito need to look like they're made in one piece. I would think procedurals but I don't have much time to experiment. Any suggestions welcome.

    Example (cylinder is going to be thicker but you get the point):

      Well I'm familiar with both but I'm not quite sure if that would get me the proper results I might try those out as a quick solution in the beginning and see where that leads me. Granito might work but I'm not sure about marble, it has some pretty distinctive lines.

        Just asign a planar mapping, then an unwrap UVW modifier. In the Vertex selection, grab the lower verts and scale them out.
        Won't work for a lot of things because of slight stretching but for marble it will be fine. I've used this method before.
        After you're done with the simple model, you can now assign edgeloops to determine the hardness.
