I dont think that x refs or proxies are going to work in my case as there is so much in the scene that is controlled by sliders so I can animate the hydraulic functions of all the equipment. Im hoping I can shave off at least 700mb today by attaching more stuff and optimizing meshes.
    Cheers,

Might be obvious, but : do you have "compress on save" ON?

well if you modeled the elements yourself and had more time you could model and bake from a high poly to a low poly workflow depending on how much time you have, exactly how you model for games, i use this all the time and some 200,000 poly models suddently are 5 or 6000 and even less, its a great way to work and then you can incorporate quixel and substance painter in the workflow and then no need to dirt maps etc, i know alot of arch viz people run away from it but if you have time for a project its the way to go

90% of the models are imported from Solidworks files i get from the engineers at my office. Currently ProOptimizer is working well except for having to manually go through each part and apply it but in the end I think this will save me a ton on file size, worst part is the scene I'm working on still needs more buildings, a couple vehicles and a ton of trees and grass and rock lol going to be pushing max to its limits and beyond :P

No and the only reason is it takes 2 or three times the time to save a compressed file here...

I would post my stats, however, my computer tanked this morning. Thankfully, I keep a real-time backup on an external HD and I backup that backup to the cloud. I have my old workstation on standby, but I am going to give DELL a day to come out and replace it before I go there. I haven't had a day of in 1 1/2 years, so I am going to the lake!

Have you tried Modifier Zorb 2? You can add any modifiers en masse to your scene.

There is a batch mode for ProOptimizer as well that I have tried but some parts can be taken down to 20% or 30% and others only to 70% or 80% so doing it en mass Im still better off doing it manually.

is the object you select a line from a cad program? If so, that would explain a lot.

I have noticed using the Revit to Max workflow I am getting a lot of spinning wheels. Last 3 projects I worked on have been giving me headaches. Might look into prooptimizer.

In my case, no. There is no rhyme or reason. I can crash 3-4 times and, let's say the 5th time, it's okay and doesn't happen again on that object. Having said that, it'll happen again, but not necessarily on that item. Once a project gets large, the software starts to fall apart. Try to select everything in the explorer, and it'll hand for hours.

If you are referring to the batch ProOptimizer it kind of is, I import the files from Solidworks to max and a quality setting around 7 or 8 and then use ProOptimizer on it.

Mine only does that when I have a ton of groups in my scene, Ive gotten in to the practice of ungrouping and just attaching together the objects I was to stay together or I use linking. Why are you not still at the lake? enjoy the day off my friend
