    Bobby,

What features are in 2016 that make you want to use it ?

From all the stories I've read, as well as my own experience of it (last year), I wonder when, if ever, I'll ever be making the jump from 2014.

I think AD will make you make the jump, eventually. I don't see any reason to upgrade from 2014 and from what I'm hearing, 2017 won't give you a reason, either.

Depends on what you need, you might not need new features in 2016. But, 2017 is a different story. The overall speed improvement and UV update is too big to pass on.

        Anyway.. back to OP.
So... you can not see certain object in SE?
Is that object part of group or container? Xref?
Is it happen even after you merge the object in a new scene?

Ha. And I'm still on 2012. The golden year. Still haven't seen anything improve...

Wow... 2012... you should try at least 2014.
If I have to use 2012 viewport again, that would be hell....

Really?? Maybe its because the layers manager actually works in 2012 so I can hide and unhide parts of my projects to keep the viewport smooth. Or make vray proxies.

I might need to take a look. I tried 2015 and it was horrendous. So maybe 2014 is the sweet spot.

2016 SE is a lot better then 2015.
I am just curious what you didn't like.
I'll have a chance to talk with Autodesk guys.
If you could give me some feedback on SE, it would be great.

I stopped using the Max layer manager about a year ago. I couldn't figure it out since they changed it. Nested Layer Manager all the way.

I have never used it! From the beginning it has always made little sense to me and seemed as if it was programmed by someone who didn't use the software on a regular basis (not an entirely unusual thing after the Yost Group sold 3DS Max to Adesk).

So what do I use? Named Selection Sets! I just create a Named Selection Set for any group of objects that I'll need to be dealing with as a whole later on and then Hide and Unhide them as I need to. Period.

Not very sophisticated certainly, and won't work for everyone I'd imagine, but it's simple, direct, easy and never fails...

I use PSD Manager, which relies heavily on layers, at least for my work flow. Basically, I have figured out that once a scene gets so big, MAX slowly start failing. Like people have mentioned, the more you can attach, the better. It helps, unless you have to start modifying your model, then it stinks. I did find a good script that un-joins, however, if the thing you have joined is large MAX chokes and freezes when using it.
