Synology NAS for project files - and a battery backup for the NAS in case of power failure.
Really small image, so I can't see it, but great to be able to close it up. Do I like the Synology NAS, any recommendations? Right now I have an 8TB external drive backing up my project foilder, which is backed up to Carbonite. I also have a 2nd 8TB external drive backing up the first.

Sounds like your data situation works for you - I don't have a second backup - everything is on a DS1515+ - I forget which array setup I'm using, but it allows for a least 1 or 2 drives to fail. I figure with my luck when it fails they'll all fail together

I'll see if I can get proper pictures of the space. Although it's a mess.

I have a very small space.. its just a 5'x8' room. My wife is an artist & she shares some space keeping her stuff along. I tried to make those desks stand with my own limited tools.. i do little bit of carpentry work & keep renovating broken furniture & other household stuff so you may notices that those 2 desks are not aligned properly .. if in 3d things would have been different haha!

Thank you! I have been working on it for 3+ years. Well, the space is new, but the stuff has been a process to get. I have been working up, buying things just to get buy and upgrading when I can. Like the Herman Miller chair. I started off with an old task chair, worked up through a few decent office chairs and then to this one. This is the cheapest one they had, so I might upgrade this one in a few years. Same for the desk and most everything I have.

Nice space and I love the chair. The back-lite monitors are nice, too.

Here is my work space. It is in my main living space. solo freelancer setup <g> I couldn't justify renting office space here - it would be more than my mortgage payment. Plus I'm way more efficient working from home. (I know that's not true for everyone.)

My house is 1 bedroom 800 sq ft.The part of the house that is shown is @ 300 sq ft and was built in 1894. That was the entire house. Looking beyond toward the kitchen is a 500 sq ft.addition I built in 1985. I'm slowly re-doing everything I did in 1985. Right now I'm in a work lull and I'm poised to cut 8 recess lights and one Pendant light into the ceiling of the Living room shown with the work space. Move everything out and mask off and etc to drill eight 4.25" holes in ceiling with !/2 drywall over 1X wood over coal dust, rock wool and fiberglass bats above.

Plus I'm getting rid of the one upper wall cabinet that is next to the window. The desk was L shaped and extended/turned under that cab. I'm slowly reducing the work space and improving the Living space.

The chair is a Steelcase Leap Chair. I shopped Herman Miller and I like this better plus a lot less expensive. Look at, I think, Madison Seating or something like that for good price.

I'm thinking of monitor upgrade. I have the two Dell 2007 FP shoown. They work fine but seem real old and so.... Any suggestions on what is good for arch viz work?

1894, how cool is that? Nice space and like you, I work from home home and I love it. Who plays the piano? Lul in work, what is causing that? I hope that it isn't an industry trend . 800 s.f., I take it that you are not married and you don't have kids. This house is 2500 s.f., which works good for us, which is my wife and two teens.

Yeah 1894. It's a rated structure in a national historic landmark district. I have lifted it up and put a foundation under, insulated, new windows, door, roofing, electrical, gutted interior and new flooring, drywall, wainscot. I used to work as a carpenter many years ago. I like the rendering gig way better. My Knowledge of blueprints and etc was how I began. 3DS r-4, first windows based ACAD 12.

Lull in work is not that uncommon for me. But they do make me nervous after some amount of time. I seem to get three jobs at once and go to defcon5 for a month or three and then maybe a few weeks off. Was in steady work flow from Jan thru the beginning of July. I thought I was rolling into two other projects but both went into black hole status. When I get these lulls I work on the house.

yep, single no kids, pets or house plants. Girl friend lives 20 minutes out of town in nice place. I play the piano, striving intermediate, blues, boogie, etc. Was in a band for a bit and did some ok gigs but it fizzled.

Yeah, freelancing can be stressful. It's hard to enjoy those days off when there isn't work lined up, I am sure. I remember about two years ago I woke up on a Monday with no work. I panicked and by Wednesday I was booked again and I haven't had a day off since. Man, do I wish I would have enjoyed those couple days . I guess all industries face the same thing and that next job needs to come in. Unfortunatly, there is no freelance unemployment.
