I render in V-Ray for Sketchup. But I've recently gotten a 3DS Max license with V-Ray for 3DS Max as well. I'm a long way from figuring all that out. In the meantime, I love that I've been able to go to websites and download 3D models for 3DS Max, open them, dial down the number of faces if need be, and export them to 3DS objects that I can then import into my Sketchup models. The only issue is the textures. Here's an example:
I have an apple model. It's using a sliced and diced green apple texture map (see 1st pic). In 3DS Max, that texture looks great on the apples (see 2nd pic). I know that Material editor is specifying how to apply that map to each part of the apple (see 3rd pic). But when I export to 3DS, then import the 3DS into Sketchup, my model looks great but comes in with a texture missing a diffuse map. When I add the 1st image as the diffuse, I get the 4th pic. Sketchup has no idea how to place the map. I've tried using the V-Ray UV tools in Sketchup with no luck.
So my question is: Is there a process I can follow that will allow me to get that 3DS model into Sketchup with correct texture placement? Or on a bigger level, is there a tried and true method of taking an object in 3DS Max, and getting it into Sketchup with materials intact?
Thanks for the advice in advance!
