just to clear things up a bit though since i could see areas where misconceptions could easily be made. this is what you get when you buy 1 liscence with vray. 1 floating liscence which i assume for some people is loaded onto a central server rather than on a work station. this allows the liscence to float around your network. you can model in max with no problems. however you cant do anything that uses vray. for instance using the vray material in the material editor. i think basically the settings in there are blanked out or something. Who ever is in control of the liscence server computer will be able to disconnect the liscence from any computer and allow it for other ones. Again, you will not be able to do renders on the other computers on the network who dont have the liscence allowed for them.
So basically on one computer with 1 liscence you can do your materials you can do your rendering. Now then. the good part. using vray you can use the DR (distributed renderer) this will allow you to use up to 10 computers on your network to contrubute to rendering 1 single image. Vray renders with tiles which you can set the dimensions of. Each tile being rendered by 1 processor. so if all your computers on the network had 2 processors you would get 20 tiles rendered in a single go. if they were HT system you would have 40. The limitation on this is the 10 computer limitation. no limitation on processors. if you buy 2 liscences your limitation goes up to 20 computers.
Next benifit: you have unlimited network rendering capabilities. meaning using the usual max backburner for network rendering you can use an unlimited amount of computers. there is an unfortunate drawback that ive noticed listed here on the forum though. Microsoft has a limitaiton on network connections to any single computer.
to the people paying for shipping i think an outcry should go out to vlado and peter. this sounds very much like fraud on the part of the people selling chaos groups software. not fraud on the part of chaos group. basically they seem to be driving up the price on a package that vlado and peter have lovingly worked on. (im sure there have been time that they have hated vray and put it on CD just for the pleasure of having something physical to kick, bend, burn and throw around when a certain piece of code is acting up hehe)
