  • Assign material by plug-in checkbox

The assign material by plug-in was removed in NEXT and it makes assigning materials to layers a real pain.
If you have even just a couple of nested layers the names are irritating to see in the small assign to layer context menu as they are cut off and you have to hover to see each one.
Assigning a material to multiple layers is a massive chore now, you must individually assign each layer, one by one, compound this with not being able to see the layer names, it takes even longer. Before i could just select all the layers in rhino, check the plugin box and it was done. Click image for larger version Name:	Annotation 2019-07-25 123950.png Views:	1 Size:	16.9 KB ID:	1043687

I really hope you can bring this back or at least make assigning materials in v-ray much better.

    Hi JHorsley

Kindly note that this functionality was not exposed due to a known bug, which would corrupt the whole file.

However, this has been resolved and the workflow will be introduced once again in our next release (whether it is a stable nightly or official build).

Good to know that you are working on this. I am trying out the 20190813 nightly build and it seems to work quite nicely in Rhino 6 but there are some odd behaviours in Rhino 5:
Assigning a material to a layer in the layers panel works but leaves the material name as "Basic Material 002" so you can't tell what material that layer has. This doesn't happen when you assign it through the Asset Editor.
A duplicate material can get put in the Rhino materials list sometimes, I think this happens when you try to drag the material from the Asset Editor to an object or layer.

The edit button in Rhino's material editor does not select the relevant material in the Asset Editor.

Also in Rhino 6 the Layer material popup does not include an edit button.
