Displacement in vray 1.46.12

I have just started using 1.46.12, had 1.09.03 before, and now there is displacement settings added for vray renderer. What do these settings do that Vrays displacement modifiers settings didn´t do before? Can someone explain the meaning of precision and resolution for the modifier and max subdivs and so on in the renderer menu. So I can compare them.
