  • HDRI Collection: Would this interest people?

    Hi,

I am looking into putting together a professional HDRI image collection for people to buy.

I am wondering if people would be interested in this, what you would want in it and how much you would be willing to spend on a collection of HDRI's?

Just doing some market research before I go forward and want to find out what the interest level is for a product such as this. Obviously if the first collection were a success I would put together other collections.

Any input would be really appreciated!

    Thanks,

Simply do a google search for other hdri collection sellers.

Since there are already a lot out there, you'll need some very good ones if you want to sell anything.

I wouldn't mind seeing some GOOD spherical sky hdri's. The ones we have at work are crap since they dont have enough dynamic range and just tints everthing too blue...

You need some very good equipment to make good sky hdri's. However I can't see the benefit of hdri for outdoor lighting ... Direct light and skylight color (or a gradient) is much faster.

I do. I like the varied lighting given when using a good sky hdri with clouds. I frequently end up trying to simulate it using skylight.

              1) Create the HDRI's in "normal" locations...not at some uber famous landmark. If I'm using a HDRI for reflections on some glass laiden building model I've created that is in a downtown location...The last thing I want to see is a reflection of Stonehenge or the Parthanon....although Stonhenge HDRI's would be kinda cool...lol.

              2) Take some Hi-Res regular photos of the HDRI locations for compositing purposes.

              3) Try to capture as many different lighting conditions as possible. Cloudy day, partly cloudy, sunny, night!, evening, etc.

              4) How about animated HDRI's? Capture a particular site every 15 minutes or so. A lot of work...you betcha. Might be something unique that you can offer though. Especially if you can create a script for max that will allow people to adjust the exposure control on a sequence of HDRIs.

Just some thoughts...I hope that helps, and good luck if you proceed with your project.
