    Hi

Im using a beta version at the moment which is a couple of stages away from 1.5 and take it from me that DR is now superb and very reliable,
Start stop isnt a problem now..

This sounds like very good news! Natty, do you mean that cancelling a job is much safer now? Because that has kept me from using DR quite much. I have the habit to hit render and then realize I forgot one setting...cancel...change...hit render again...hmm renderslaves don't (or didn't?) like these quick actions.

Ive been using the new and improved DR in production now for 2 weeks and i havent restarted the vray Spawner's(on 10 machines) Once ! ... you can cancel, then press render straight away ...and bang, there in again, no stalling, no errors ... its a god send for vray DR Lovers !!!

            this is good news

can it handle textures being in different locations on different machines?

or can it have the host distribute them, along with the file?

thats something that you 'need' (kinda can work around it but its easier to have this feature)

im from final render and we have this and its wonderful

As long as your network is configured properly then you shouldnt have a problem.

the things is though that they had it working once apun a time to be able to include and exclude machines on the fly. i remember when DR 1st came out and me and torgeir had advanced copies we were actually doing DRs on our computers across the atlantic and he was on a laptop with wireless internet hehe. naturally it was a simple scene though.

THAT is something I would love to see. Would be nice to share render time with a group of individuals each having a small render farm. Grouped together, and scheduled right, could be a win-win for all involved.

and be sure to atleast have an 10(0)mbit line up and down though as network traffic is heavy between the master and each node.
