  • Anybody using Vray for games?

I would like to know if there's anybody that's been using vray in a game developing pipline. Mainly for lightmaps.

I think that using V-ray for games is irrationally. There are many other ways.

Why would it be irrationally ? actually i think vray´s irridiance maps could bring lightmaps to a new level *g*

But why not use it for lightmaps ? it´s killerfast and has great GI...perfect for creating great lightmaps

Ok? That for me was a real strange thing to say. If we planing of having lightmaps in our engine and baking GI into them. What other ways is it that you are talking about? And why wouldn't Vray be a solution? It has really fast GI calculation, specially because you don't need to have high settings to for the use in games.

Already games like HL2 use killer lightmaps, you can go into some maps and see them projected through thin japanese/paper walls even *if theyre in that map and were set up correctly anyway* I think it would be great to see integration of Vray's GI system and a videogame engine.

can you be more specific when you say render to texture doesn't work? Ive used it quite a bit. or are you referring to the older 3dbaker that came with older versions of vray?

i would say if you have an 'engine' the best workflow could be your own ie. radiosity solver build in the map/world editor. building a pipeline to fit around a 3dsmax plugin render seems well a bit clumsy....but its possible. i guess you then would need to write your own geomtry exporter to get a file format that supports more than 1 mapping channel.
