  • About dongle

I don't know yet which renderer i'm going to use for my work (MR, Final render or Vray)

I have some concerns about the dongle thing, do you need the dongle only for the installation or you need it pluged each time you use vray ? what if i want vray installed at home and at work, do i have to bring the dongle each morning and leave the office with it to be able to use vray at home ?

each time you use vray. Yes you'll have to take it with you home and to the office.

      Dongle

This gets me a lot. I usually work from the office and from home and when I forget the dongle I am stuck. When I forget the dongle in one place or the other I end up logging in remotely to the machine that has the dongle. Since I am running xp64 I don't have a driver for my routers VNC app. If I did I could use the office machine as a license server and it wouldn't matter.

V-Ray is well worth this little hassle for me anyway! I'll probably purchase another dongle anyway, just in case.

So it's possible to get a second dongle for the same license from your reseller ? it could be a solution, one at home and one at the office, withtout the need to buy two licenses of course.

No, you would need 2 licenses. Don't loose that dongle in transport... you'll be buying a new one full price

Yeah I take my dongle home with me and export the Max license for use at home for the night, unless i'm doing a render or whatever. I have a zip pocket in my jacket, it's called the VRay pocket. I guard it with my life.

A temporary license and a dongle ($30 last time I checked) is a small price to pay for the flexibility.

You can also set up a licenseserver over http with the dongle. That way you could leave it at the office and grab the license from home. Or set up a VPN and grab it via the VPN.

                            Thorsten,
Where do I find information about setting up a license server for my work machine? or is VPN better and more flexible in other ways too?

Well if you have the VRay License Server running than you are ready to go heh.

                              http://licensserver:30304/

this shows the statuspage directly. As long as the port is forwarded and the maschine accessable via internet it should work.

                              Regards,
