  • Glass help?

Ok, so here's my first post. I am trying to get the hang of this VRay stuff, and so far I'm a fan. One of my problems, despite the great help from some tutorials I've read, is glass. Attached is a render that I have done with some simple ring models. The colored stones are my focus here, and I just can't seem to get them looking right. Most of the tutorials I found were geared for Max, and there seem to be quite a few differences in how the controls work. I guess what I'm looking for is some help on getting the reflection/refraction settings just right. Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

    Glass help?

    Hi,

    here VfR tutorials:

    http://www.asgvis.com/VfRtw/bin/view/VfR/UserTutorials

    Some hints for your scene:

    - set at the global switch at higher max depth for reflections. test some settings.
    - disable "double side" at the glass material options
    - be careful with the fog color (did you have used it?)
    - be sure, that the glass and the ring dosn't intersect.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I figured I would get myself in trouble with the fog. I'll try what you have suggested and see what I get. Thank you again for the help.

Actually double side option should be checked, and reflect on backside should be checked for realistic glass.

There were many different stages in how the BRDFs were calculated during our long beta. So now it should be ok with the double-sided. I believe it is related to us always using volume fog now.

Joe, is it possible to place the reflection layer befor the emitter layer. Often, emitters has a glossy surface like monitor screens.

Not in the current version of V-Ray for Rhino. We can look into making the layer type order less restrictive.
