id like to have the diamond reflect one hdr map while the ring shank reflects a completely different environment hdr map. any suggestions? This is my first gemstone in vray, needs work i know.. a big big thanks to Michael for the great material editor tutorial.

You first gemstone - looks good.
Object based env is not supported, but you could render your scene twice with different env maps and combine it per postwork.
Corey or Joe, I try to create a glass material with dispersion effect for the material tutorial. I use three refraction layers with different IORs, but I don't know, how to setup the colors. Any suggestions?
Thomas has done it, but I can not reproduce it.

Edit: Can it be, that I can not reproduce the dispersion effect, because I can not use independent IORs yet. (see also bug report http://www.asgvis.com/phpBB2/viewtop...r=asc&start=30)www.simulacrum.de - visualization for designer and architects

bummer, yeah the idea behind the 2 different hdr maps would help me simulate dispersion slightly. I could use really colorful hdr's for the gems, yet keep simple greyscales for the ring shank (thats what I used to do in brazil). I am trying to not do any post work as we are looking at vray for the matrix package. most of its user base is not going to want to post process. Ill keep playing. Thanks Micha!

I now see where the dispersion issue lies. We made a change in how we handled the fog color during our beta. Originally it was only used if it was a non-white color. At some point we decided that we should always use the fog color regardless. Doing this required us to use a multivolume plugin that I originally thought kept each layer with its own respective IOR - but apparently it just averages the IOR - thus stomping out the dispersion effect. This could have something to do with the other problem you (Micha) mentioned - but it only affects refraction not reflection ior. We'll have to talk with Vlado about this issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.Best regards,
