  • Glas material with texture (projection behind plexiglass)

I need to do objects with different surfaces. They have mirror surfaces and led beamers inside.
Now I got those solids that I exploded into sepperate surfaces. Have mirroring surfaces on some faces and the others need to be milklike-plexiglass with a texture (beamers are hidden inside the objects).

Now I tried a glass material but it doesn`t work on simple planes.
How can I set up a material that has a texture on it and emites light into the scene...there is no additional light except the ~150 LED beamers hidden inside the objects.

I put point lights behind this glas (which is a solid which I dont like because the texture is mapped around it...I rather want a simple plane)..it also looks grainy.

Hope that my post is not too confusing.
    heres a test render.

and the scene with some other material but no internal lightning.

its spehrical because I love those .mov

A nicer material pipeline and some tutorials would be on my wishlist...

Hase anybody else done a backlit textured plane?

Re: Glas material with texture (projection behind plexiglass)

I guess I understand how emissive layers work now.
played around with the saturation to.

the next tast will be a bit time consuming I fear...
What if I want to run a video for a texture? I would need to take a screenshot frame by frame and produce 25 different textures for every second (or 15 if i am lazy)
Then change the texture of each object between the single renderings.

I wish I could have a preview of how easy things will be in maybe 20 years ;D
Please put that one on the Vray Wishlist: speechinterface for telling the thing what to do without moving the mouse ;D :P :

I am so confused with what you wrote, but intrigued...Maybe this will make more sense in the morning, but either way send me an email ( dalomar@asgvis.com )with a more detailed explanation and your scene and textures. I know what needs to happen in my head, I'm just having a hard time coming up with the words. I can be done, but its not as simple as clicking "Magic button A".

As far as the video for a texture thing, thats no where near being supported at the moment, so your manually load each frame approach is the only way if your that dedicated.

With the speach interface we've actually got that working in a super top secret development build. Its in a room with a big steal door. We've got voice recognition, finger print readers, and retina scans on this thing. This development is on higher lock down the Fort Knox...and its all for you guys ;D

Thank you. I think it works fine with the emissive layer for the Plexiglass. A real projection is not neccesarry since you only see the projected images on the outside of the surfaces which mirror well in the mirrors of the other cubes.

Anyways...would be fun to create a virtual projector. You think it is possible? A prism can be done but for a projector we would need a clear material with a texture (transparent textures?)

I am also thinking off adding air with dust particles to the scene like a clear material, no refraction and fog inside.

The material book is excellent btw. I only whish the test scenes where also available.
        and sorry for the confussion

The confusion was also on my part (tired from a long day, and sick of looking at code). I'd still like to play with the scene, so send it along. I'll get the files for the book up as soon as I can track them down.
