Is it possible to manipulate (trim, split...) the infinite plane? Or add a transparency map? I have a model that is below the plane level so the it cuts through it.

Nope...Infinte plane is created procedurally, meaning that there's no real geometry behind it (despite what you see in the viewport). Mapping is hard two because there are no real verticies by which to locate texture coordinates.

      Re: Infinite Plane

Interesting question ... I have done a test and found - there is a way. Attached an example - checker texture and transparency map use the same mapping like at the screenshot. The transparency is a white texture and tile is disabled. The transparency is used one times and the offset option allow to place it at every place at the image. So, cut a hole in the infinite groundplane is possible. I would say, problem is solved.
