  • What do you think of this PC spec?

    Hi all,

I have a chance to get a Dell PRECISION T5400 workstation with an Intel E5410 XEON QUAD CORE 2.33GHZ chip.
It has 4 Gigs of DDR-2 RAM, a 220 Gig SATAII Harddrive and an ATI HD4550 Video Card.
I am also told the mother board can take another XEON QUAD CORE making it an 8 core machine and RAM can be upgraded to 8 Gig.

Its running Windows XP Professional 64 bit.

The price isn't bad but still in negotiations.

What do members think of the spec though for running VRAY? Will the Quad chip help with render times and would it be worth getting adding the other XEON quad core chip if so?

    Thanks in advance

    Rob

    Hi Rob

If you are not going for a dual cpu, I would definitely consider a non-xeon processor, as they are somewhat pricey! Instead opting for a i7 2600k or i7 980 hexa core. And certainly some more memory - at least 8 gigs, but those aren't very expensive these days.

      Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I am thinking if I do purchase it I will get antoher another Xeon Quad core to bring it up to the 8 core. Plus upgrade thr RAM. Do you think an i7 chip would still be better though as they are newer?
