  • 3ds Max RT GPU

    Hi all,

I have quite a few questions on V-Ray RT for GPU.

-Is there a way to pause and then set a render going again?
-Is the 'max path per pixel' the main setting for controlling noise quality?
    -Are AA filter settings used?
-Do lens effects work with RT GPU?
-Is there a way to increase the hdr image resolution?
-Do frame buffers work with RT GPU?
-Does the V-Ray wrapper shader work (for ground planes)?
-Do V-Ray portal lights work in GPU rendering?

Sorry for the list (and posting here), but I've been comparing iray and RT GPU as to which to use.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Yes, right-click in the ActiveShade view and select Pause. Right-click and select Resume to continue.

Either that or the max. rendering time - depending on which one you choose to use.

    -Are AA filter settings used?
Currently a fixed 1x1 box filter is hard-coded. For the next update we will add more filters.

-Do lens effects work with RT GPU?
They will work if you use V-Ray RT as a production renderer.

I'm not sure I understand this one?

-Do frame buffers work with RT GPU?
If you mean render elements, then no.

-Does the V-Ray wrapper shader work (for ground planes)?
No. However the CPU version works.

-Do V-Ray portal lights work in GPU rendering?
Yes; they always work in "simple portal" mode though.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi Vlado,

      thanks for all the info.

Sorry, I meant to say, is there a way to change/increase the GPU texture size past 2048, not 'HDR image resolution'.

And on the lens effects, do they get applied after the render, as non RT renders or are they part of the noise refinement from the start.

      Cheers,

      Steve

        Hi Vlado,

I have a couple more questions - as I'm thinking of using V-Ray RT GPU for production rendering:

Is there a way of tweaking the lens effects settings after rendering, like the interactive setting on non RT rendering?
If not what would be the best way to set this up?

Is there an optimum setting for Trace depth and GI depth for more 'real world' lighting, say 20 and 20, and if so, does this override the shaders or should the reflection and refraction of each shader then be set to 20 reflection and 20 refraction?

And is there a way or script for overriding the GPU texture size past 2048?

        Cheers,

        Steve
