  • Multi-material in V-Ray 1.5

    Hi,

I have a model of a helicopter and I'm trying to place two different maps each depicting the details of the helicopter, logos etc, one at each side of the helicopter.

How can I map two planar maps on an object without splitting the object in 2 halves?

I've used Flamingo before and I'm able to place each map as a decal on each side very easily. In Flamingo I can choose the projection direction fwd or backwards , so I place the decals at the centerline and project each one on to the corresponding side.
But I cannot find a way to tell v-ray which way to project the image as it always goes all the way through even if I place the mapping widget at the centerplane of the object.
(I hope I make myself clear)

I've tried also creating one material for each side with each corresponding bitmap in a different channel as planar (vertical planes x-z) using the correct XYZ and then creating multi-material with two materials one for each side but only one side shows up going through the whole object ...

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Palonsanto-

Can you please upload a couple of screen shots so that I can seen exactly what you are are trying to achieve?

      Hi Corey,

I want to simply apply a different decal to each side of an object without having to split the object in two halves. How do I accomplish this in V-ray?
I'm very new with v-ray ... (can you tell ...?
See attached image of a mockup of a "helicopter" with what I'm trying to do. Again, in Flamingo I was able to apply as many decals as I wanted and control the direction of the projected image.

      Thanks for your help.

I believe this can be accomplished using texture channels. The Multi-Material is for use with Proxy Objects only. You will likely never need to actually create one, they are usually created automatically when a Proxy is brought in to the scene.

          ok, nevermind multi-materials.
I've tried puting each bitmap on a different channel. For starters, it only shows one channel.
But the main problem I'm having is controlling the DIRECTION of the planar mapping. It always projects both sides of the planar widget. So no matter where I place the widget in relation to the object, I get always the map all the way through the object.
ok, Lets make it even simpler. Place a decal on a sphere.
How do I avoid the decal going through to the other side! If I place a logo or a name it will up mirrored on the other side.
Come on, it must be a simpler way to tell vray what direction to project the texture !

          I've tried
