  • Bump Map Not Rendering, Bleaching Material Instead

I've been pulling my hair out fudging with settings and I can't get close to figuring this one out.
I'm trying to apply a bump map to some wood-siding that I'm doing for a client in Vray 1.01 for Rhino 4.
With no maps, the material rendered looks like this:

For hyperbole's sake, just to see if I can get an effect, I've added this bump map:

And the rendering, with bump map (Intensity 1), turns into this:

The Material is just a basic 20%grey with no special settings. This seems to be happening to all materials I've toyed with.
I've tried multiple bumps, tinkered with settings, and used different Indirect Illuminations.

I have a rectangular light facing the surface, the only Environment Light is the GI, set at White and 1.

The bump map settings I've toyed with a lot but they're simply default.

Anything you guys could suggest would be amazing, since I've pretty much hit a brick wall here. I've tried to include relevant information but if there's anything I'm leaving out let me know

    Thanks!

May I ask why you are using V-Ray 1.01? That is a 5 or 6 years old version.

      Vray 1.5 is >$1000

      Would I love it though.

The last version of the good old 1.xx plugin was 1.05.29 and there I never have seen this kind of problem.

If you have the version 1.01 y pretty sure that you can update to 1.05.29 for free. You just have to contact us to release your license.

I ended up exporting (geometry only) the part of the 3d model that I needed and rebuilding the materials from scratch.

Still not sure what the problem was.
I would import working scenes from third parties into the same file and they would render the same, washed out, way. This while I knew what they should look like I tried resetting the defaults of the vray settings to no avail. Weird.

Case and point why to stay up to date with software! Feel like it might have something to do with that. I'll see how the old file renders with the upgraded software once I'm done with this project.
