  • Vray Render Passes (Antialiasing Issue?)

    Hello, everyone!

I have been trying to render usable Render ID pass to get masking selections in Photoshop for Post-processing.

However, no matter how high a resolution for a render, the Render ID pass comes pixellated and when I use to select a color to mask in Photoshop. The masking is very messy showing pixellated edges and so on.

My question is how to avoid this issue and be successful when masking using the Render ID pass in Photoshop?!

Or Please suggest me a better workflow...

    Thank you

Use the material ID and set ID colors at the materials.

The render ID is without AA. I'm not sure for what is can be used.

Micha, my hero.. I thank you so much. I will try using material ID instead. By the way, where do you think I can find a good modeling and rendering workflow for vray Rhino?

I am interested in learning linear workflow for vray rhino and there are some resources online about vray 3ds max but I have not find Rhion one yet.

Ah, just found an easy tutorial here:

        http://chaosgroup.com/en/2/material_ID_channel.html

Very simple. I have never seen this page before.. I wonder from where I can access this page. Are there more tutorials like this on this website??

I'd also be interested in linear workflow/ render channel compositing tutorials for VfR... I've tried the ones for max and can't get it to work quite right, I feel like I am missing a step somewhere...

Yes..!! 3ds max linear workflow looks like a very nice way to control the final image...
I think vray for 3ds max and Rhino produce different channels. For instance, VfR does not have Ambient Occlusion Pass I believe..
I will post if I make progresses on this

Micha, by the way, I have a question about your post on How to save RAM? in the tutorial forum.

You said turning nurbs into mesh helps when rendering in Vray. Does this help at all? The command "extractrendermesh" and then deleting all the nurbs.

                  Or it is the same?

Could you give me a tip on how to turn nurbs to mesh without using MOI3d? (Just using "Mesh" command, what is the rule of thumb?)

If you have a complex model, maybe a 300MB NURBS 3dm file, than extract render mesh and delete the NURBS and save the file (best under new name), than you should get a lower RAM usage.

                      Thank you, Micha!
My RAM is full and the render takes super long..! I will try this method

fooprobe, I found this nice tutorial today: http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/cha...-in-photoshop/
I have not tried myself yet. Thought it was nicely put together

Yes I've tried that one, but I can't get it to produce the same results. I feel like there's a step I'm missing. Let me know if you figure it out.

But don't forget - RAM is cheap this days.

Haha, yes indeed! Would you say, the more RAM the better?
