  • Vray/Yeti transparency issues

    Hi,

When rendering a Yeti groom with V-ray 2.4 for maya everything seems to be working fine at first, but when I try to use renderstats overrides or try adding the groom to vrayopjectproperties the groom still is partially visible (but all black).
It seems vray just stops raytracing at some point and returns a few "empty" pixels with RGBA values of 0. When I up the max transparency levels in the globals settings I can eliminate these pixels, but than vray still needs to calculates the area where the groom is, eventhough the primary visibility is turned off, this is extremely slow.

The reason I want to render my groom like this is because I need separate layers for my character and the floor he's standing on.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Tom

You shouldn't add groom to anything. You should work with pgYetiMaya node instead, is that what you mean?

Regarding the actual issue, when you have prime vis off, yes vray still needs to calculate all the rays passing through the fur. No way around that. Would you mind posting a small example demonstrating the issue?

    Thanks.

Yeah sorry, I meant the pgYetiMaya.

Here's a screengrab of the issue. The hair shows up in the alphachannel...

You'll need to increase the max. transparency levels in the V-Ray settings.

        Best regards,
