  • VRMESH and textures

    Hi all.

we ahve say 200 OBJs and every OBJ is with many textures, we need to use it as proxys or vrmesh as the model is approx 600 mil trias big and textures few GBs. im know how to convert OBJ to vrmesh with the cmd line convertor. but im getting not the textures to it. it can be done over 3dsmax, and use the Vray mesh convert menu. Is there a way to automatize this work somehow ?? we will have up to 2000+ OBJ parts. so making it thi sway is for weeks....

You can script this in 3ds Max too if needed; but with the standalone I'm not quite sure what you want to do - can you explain a bit more?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

will prepare few screens with explanations later this week... yes we se ethe scripting as way to do it. but would be great if it could be converted OBJ to VRMESH with use of the MTL file and data inside.....

        Hi Vlado,

        we have a same problem.
ply2vrmesh.exe not converting "textures paths" to vrmesh, when i open exported vrmesh in Maya, there are no textures.
We can't do it in Maya because we have files with more than 420 textures and mesh is more than 600 mil. poly.

It looks like ply2vrmesh.exe not accepting *.mtl file.

        Best regards,
        Rasto

Can you get me an example of what you want to do? It doesn't have to be your production file.

Generally it should be possible for us to add an option to ply2vrmesh to store the textures as a user attribute into the .vrmesh file, so that you can read that inside a VRayHDRI texture using a custom tag. Would that work?

          Best regards,
          Vlado

I have OBJ with more than 600mil poly and 420 textures with size of 2k resolution and i want to render it with vrmesh, that's all. :P
Problem is that i can't load 600mil polys to Maya.

That part I understood. But I need an actual OBJ example along with its .mtl file and the textures - like I said it doesn't have to be your production file, just some example.

              Best regards,
              Vlado
