  • Emitting from texture

Again in PhoenixFD for Maya (2.2/2014). I thought emitting from the white areas of a texture was as simple as mapping the texture to the discharge map slot (dischargeMult)... but it doesnt appear to be working for me.

it should be really as simple as you supposed. no effect at all or not the desired one? can you post some images?

The source geometry continued to emit from the entire surface - same as before the texture was mapped. i initially tried an animated ramp and then switched to a checker to test... I think both are supported by Vray? I can send an example on Monday if that isnt enough information. thx!

You can send a scene to the phoenix mail of course. In Maya you should watch for the "Alpha is Luminance" option.

I built a simple scene with a cube as the source and simply mapped a checker texture to the discharge map. I get the same result after mapping the texture as before, which is an evenly distributed emission. Are there any other steps besides mapping the texture? I think this has worked for me in the past.

          thanks,

Here is an example with checker. Note that the black should be real black in order to have zero emission.

I dont appear to have permission to access the file...

you guys make this too difficult. And 1 response per day? takes too long to resolve any issues.
