  • Make a sound at render end?

    Hi all,

I realize this is for the "Feature request" category but since I can't post there (asking my supervisor for our log-in credentials will be more painful than what I am willing to go through) I will post it here- is it possible to make VRay make a sound on render end? Optional, since not everybody will want it, I guess. Like a button in the Frame Buffer or a tick-box in the settings menu?
I do render in the background quite often and knowing exactly when the render has finished will save me (and others of course) some idle time...

    Cheers.

I second that! The whole email thing doesn't work, so some kind of notification would be great. Heck, ring my doorbell or flash my lights; it is the internet of things, after all.

I know I'd done this before in college, so I've dug it up!

Go to 'Customize / Preferences', Rendering tab

There's a section for 'Render Termination Alert'
You can set it to be a beep or play a sound file. It's in 2012, not sure if they removed it in newer versions of max. I think I had some weird .wav file play, worked really well when babysitting renders and multi-tasking

So if you save this as a .ms file:

        Code:
         ShellLaunch @"C:\Users\Public\Music\Sample Music\Sleep Away.mp3" ""
And replace the path to the file with your own sound. In the render dialog where you assign a renderer, the rollout above is called scripts. Browse for the above script in the post-render section and tick on enable. It'll open your sound in whatever app is associated with it.

I just found a free small software called Text to Wav converter, which converts whatever you type in it to a .wav file.
I used that file in the Customize / Preferences, Rendering tab in 3DS Max and now I get "Julian, your render has finished"
Pretty sci-fi if you ask me, almost like AI in your home.

              What a great weekend
