  • particle flow and vray instancer

I've been experimenting recently with the combination of vray instancer and 3dsMax's particle flow and i reached an issue I can't work around
i'm trying to distribute materials to the distributed geometry from the instancer but it just wouldn't comply
at first i thought that the problem is with my particle flow setup so I did a test using the shape instance operator instead of the instancer to distribute some geometry and the result was pretty ok

but it wouldn't work with instancer

but as you can see the secondary particles (generated with vray fur) pick up on the different materials quite well

any idea how i can work around that ? is it even possible for the geometry generated from the instancer to have it's material controlled ?

Would it be possible to attach both scenes (or send them to support@chaosgroup.com), the one with the Shape Instancer that works and the second one with V-Ray Instancer which doesn't.
Thank you very much in advance.

here are the two scenes, well, basically it's the same scene, but with the two different setups.

        thanks in advance

It seems VRayInstancer doesn't recognize the object IDs, I made a note in our bug tracking system. As soon as we fix this we will let you know.

is there any other way to achieve the result at this moment except dividing the base mesh in to two objects and having two separate particle flows and scatter objects?

You can split the particles into different PFlow events and pick those events in two separate VRayInstancer's with different materials.

The VRayInstancer ID issue is now fixed. The fix is part of V-Ray 4.02.01 Beta builds
