  • Underwater glasses not working properly?

I'm trying to create an underwater scene using the ocean mesh and the underwater glasses. I created a huge box around my simulator to give it a floor and something to reflect instead of a black sky. However, every time I turn on underwater glasses my objects in the water disappear and then the simulator seems to lose it's texture and just renders out weird geometry. I tried rendering it without the underwater effect and my objects are back in the water; however, the water doesn't look very good. It looks blobby and unrealistic because there is no fog effect or transparency showing a bit of the sky. Any suggestions on how I can make this look more realistic or how I can get the underwater glasses to work?

I've included three images, one showing the underwater glasses and then another one without the effect. The third image is of the same scene, but an above water shot because I'm wondering if there is a way to get rid of the seam around the grid. https://www.dropbox.com/s/v22wo0c40d...water.zip?dl=0

    Thanks,
    Dani

    Hey,

Could you check the About box on the Simulation panel and paste your Build ID here? Recently we fixed some issues related to the underwater goggles, so you might need a newer build.

    Cheers!

can you try to set the fog color to white (or to use zero multiplier)?
i think the environment is disappearing because switching on the glasses you activate the fog color effect and it hides the far objects.

I set the multiplier to 0 and it looks like i'm getting some of the wave texture back and transparency; however, the objects are still not visible. You can also still see some of the weird squared geometry it created up at the top of the render.

If you are on a latest nightly and there is still this same issue, then it would be best to send the scene over to support so we can investigate what's wrong. Btw, are you looking through a Physical Camera?

Okay, I will update and try again. I'm using a Physical Camera, is that okay? Also, any thoughts on how to get rid of the seam around the grid when used with the ocean mesh?

              Thanks,
              Dani

Some parameters of the Physical camera are not yet supported. If you switch to a plain old camera, is the issue still there?

Also, do you have a screenshot of the seam around the grid? Maybe it's something that needs fixing.

I switched to the standard camera and underwater glasses still doesn't work. I will update and try again.

Here is the image showing the seam.

Ah, so this was it - you can fix the seam by adjusting the ocean level in the Rendering panel. As the simulation runs, the levels of the simulated fishtank and the ocean may diverge, so some manual adjustment could be needed sometimes.

I've updated to the most recent nightly build and the underwater glasses are still not working. So I went ahead and sent the file over to the Phoenix support team.

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated!

Roger that, we'll check the problem and I'll get back to you when we have a fix.

                        Thanks!

Hey, just wanted to check after you've been in contact with Support, is everything resolved?

Yeah, I think I finally got it to work after moving the camera down. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but from the quick test I did it looks like it did.

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated!
