  • Archimedes' principle

    Hello again!

Is it possible to simulate Archimedes' forces?)

I have a liquid, that fills a vessel. Then i'm going to throw a few balls, which have a lower density than liquid. In real life, balls first be drowned for a moment, then float up and will float on the surface, while I will continue to pour the liquid and fill the vessel.

If I cast a jet on the ball, he almost drowned again and again emerge.
I want to hear your thoughts. How can I do this kind of interesting interaction with collision objects?

    Regard Kirill.

I hope in the not too distant future this will be possible with Phoenix Right now you could either animate the objects manually, or use various tricks to make this more procedurally - for example you could use the Phoenix force PFlow operator to push the obstacles if they are many and have simple shapes, or otherwise it would look too artificial. This won't exactly produce the Archimedes force effect though, but it's some kind of fluid-object interaction

I have only 4 balls that I throw in my simulation. What is PFlow operator?

And how can I export result of simulation from 3dsmax to Maya + Arnold for example? (If there is no Phoenix or Krakatoa's in Maya?)

Check this regarding the operators https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...Force+operator

You can export the simulation in several different formats:
        - you can export the particles as PRT: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...port+Particles
        - and the mesh or particles as Alembic using Exocortex Crate or the built-in ALembic exporter in the newer 3ds Max, for which you need to put Phoenix into export mode: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/.../Liquid+Export

Thank's! But I can't find, how to put Phoenix into export mode. (I can't find "eport as=disabled")
So, when I'm trying to export, I get only empty scene with dummy. (Even if I enable Show Mesh in the Preview panel in order for the mesh export to work correctly.)

          Please help me

Do you have an 'Export' rollout at the bottom of your Liquid Simulator's rollouts? Which Phoenix version do you use?

No, I don't have this rollout. My version is old, I installed it a few years ago.
If I don't have this rollout, it means that I can't export, am I right?

Ah, well it's available only in Phoenix 3.0 - without it, you could export to vrmesh or the standard mesh formats, but you would have no animation. You should upgrade to the latest Phoenix - the upgrade from 2 to 3 is free
