  • is it possible to use the ocean simulator to render out a tiling image?

I'd like to render out a top down image of an ocean that will tile seamlessly.

in the old phoenix versions we had border options for tilling, however it appeared to be almost no used and in the flip core was not implemented.
i suppose you need this texture for a game engine, because otherwise you would use the ocean texture, right?

That is correct. And I'd also build tiling, animated normal maps as well as tiling animated color (with foam) and possibly depth maps as well.

beside tilling in x and y direction, you need time loop as well
unfortunately phoenix is not focused on such applications and can't be helpful here.
actually we spent significant effort to make our ocean texture to not tile, if i'm not wrong there is a water texture in vray for maya, that is tilled, but the looping problem still remains

          That's right
No problem. I love working with Phoenix, but I can do this in Houdini, it's just way more of a pain and I like the results of Phoenix so had hoped there was a way to use it. No problem! Thanks for the reply!

You could try out the Houdini Ocean Toolkit 3ds Max plugin: http://www.maxplugins.de/max2017.php...an&sort=Author

Its main limitation is that it only does tiled, looping oceans, but that sounds like exactly what you need
