  • GPU vs CPU looking strange in Vray 3.4

    Hi,

Just updated my video card to 1070gtx and wanted to check his power in GPU rendering using the V-ray Tiral 3.4 for SU. Before I used only CPU rendering, so never used GPU(previous card was a Radeon).
That being said, here are 2 renderings one done with GPU and the second with CPU. I am not sure why the same materials are looking so strange. It is obvious that some maps are not loading in the GPU rendering (like the grass texture from the skatter plug in proxy) and also the Glass is looking to reflective not even closer to the CPU rendering

One thing I noticed is that your background/Hdri looks rotated. Maybe the reflections are reflecting this?

I am using the same settings, just enabling or disabling the GPU switch. The Vray dome is set to invisible and the background environment is the same hdri with exact same rotation

it looks like the problem persist even if I create a new SU file with a simple scene.
here is an other sample of this problem. I am trying to figure out if the problem is with the v-ray rendering settings, video card driver or just the v-ray can't render the glass material in GPU mode... I was thinking to buy this new version of V-ray for SU but if this feature don't work it is a shame.

I am attaching the link to this sample file with the exact settings used to get this last 2 images. For the GPU rendering just enabling the GPU Acceleration switch. If anybody can download it and do this sample 2 test renderings and then post the result will be a great help for me.

            Hi,
I download and test your scene, I notice that

I also found some bug(skatter grass and tree turned white in render only mode. Material from 2.0 generate black matID. etc) which I thought, developers might already have been log these as tickets.

The only proper way to use skatter IMO is tick off the render only, then, everything will be fine

There is a list of features that GPU could support: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...tive+Rendering

            Hope these can help.

Thank you Shiyan lin, I am not sure if this is a material issue or some rendering settings are wrong by default. I just used the Glass material from the asset Library, with no modification to the default parameters. Maybe someone can explain this and how can be fixed...

              Thank you again!

                sorry Sammyciupe

I did not make it clear that:the face(or the face which assgined a glass material) towards your camera is not a Front Face.
After the face flipped ,GPU and CPU produce exactly same result.

Thanks, it worked for the glass material but the skatter grass will remain with no texture, no mater what(only in CPU production rendering mode will render correct)

                    Hi,Sammyciupe

Tick off render only will solve your problem.
There will be a workaround to fix it I guess.
