  • VRay 3.4 Swarm Issue Mac SU 2017 pro

Just got VRay 3.4 with 10 render nodes in the office. Everything seemed to be going fine. I updated my dongle successfully. Had VRay actually working on my workstation with dongle plugged however the 10 nodes are almost all UNSTABLE. They are showing up and discoverable so I don't suspect firewall interference, all apparently on the same subnet also. Is there anyway to rectify this? What could be causing this? I only have 2 or 3 max helping at a time..

I essentially licensed/activated the 'Trial' version today as that's what I was running previously but then put a fresh install on today before adding nodes. I read the license and swarm are not updated in this process?!

My colleague is still running VRay 2.0 and can access the office wide render nodes as he has licenses for 10 nodes also. Could there be interference here?

Also just today there was a new VRLIcense Server 4.4 when I was running 4.3.1 previously. Could this also be an issue?

Any help welcome as there's a tonne of factors at play here.

    Cheers

I'm not sure. But I think you need to license every single computer. I might be wrong but I don't think the master (where you run Vray and SU) distributes the licenses. I ran into the same problem. After licensing the mac of my colleague with a trial license it started to work. If this is true I hope it can be made easier...

Thanks peerman. I will investigate this. I was under the impression nodes only require the swarm install however I will try a few with the license server installed.

I hope to update and post the solution for others also.

      Thanks

So I found the solution to the issue for any others that are experiencing difficulties of render nodes being UNSTABLE and throwing 'could not find license (61)' errors.

The default license location for the render nodes needs to be disabled and directed to the pc\mac that the license is on I.e. My own workstation.

Seems to have worked but I had to bury myself in VRay for Revit swarm tutorials for this when perhaps this should be stated somewhere a bit more obvious!

Happy to get it fixed. Hoping there will be no more issues.

Glad you found the answer. It would be nice if the master workstation could distribute the licenses as well.
