  • Emergency: Vray rendering dark

I'm cranking on a deadline and am in between renders. It was rendering just like the left side of the picture, really bright. I did nothing except turn on a layer in Sketchup and now it is rendering tiny and black. If you know what the issue is, please explain it in the simplest way possible. I'm new to Vray and don't have much time!

    Thanks.

It might be helpful to mention I'm using a dome light for my lighting.

Check your camera iso and if you have region render on?

Please check your camera exposure setting or increase the Dome Light intensity substantially.
The most common cause for this issue is the quality of certain .exr/.hdr files when being slotted as a Dome Light / Environment texture.

Let me know how it goes!

        Kind regards,
        Peter

Peter.Chaushev , do you know why the "render region" button may cause the screen to go dark as well? I have encountered that problem a few times as well. I can only get it to stop doing that after I completely stop the render, clear out the image, and restart Sketchup.

ashwilli93 , I am not aware of such issue. Do you mean that the image becomes dark, but still somehow visible or simply completely pitch black? Do you use v3.40.04?
If you manage to reproduce this problem ever again, please let me know what your actions prior to the occurrence were.
            Thank you!

            Regards,
            Peter

Peter.Chaushev , it will go completely pitch black. I am using the most current version of Vray. One of my coworkers also had a scenario where one particular scene from sketcup would only render a solid black screen as well. They said they can't think of anything that they would have done to cause the scene to do this. All the other scenes rendered just fine, but that particular one would not. I looked into the file to make sure they didn't drop in a light source anywhere or anything and it only showed that they had used the Sunlight lighting presets. It was very strange as well.

There is large number of reasons why this might be happening.
If you manage to reproduce the issue, please submit a sample scene for investigation at support@chaosgroup.com (use Extensions > V-Ray > Export > Pack Project to create a single archived file).

                Kind regards,
                Peter
