  • displacement without shadow casting ?

    hey I'm rendering a movie
I used displacement for livelike grass

yet the rendertimes are 8 times longer

so... is it possible to prevent the grass from casting shadow on itself and other items ??

    thanx

Did you try unchecking 'cast shadows' ?

wouldnt it just look like a bump map without shadows cast properly?

That's what I was thinking. Except in profile, I suppose.

what vray version are you at? it works fine here by uncheking recieve shadows.
You can also try setting ray bias to greater then 0.0
or check vray shadow bias to higher then 0.2 this will reduce shadow precision on detailed objects.

              well it like this

the motion is from far away to very close by
so, far away I need the same "color/darkness" as up close

and up closer I need the detail of the grass

And morbid, I will try your setting in the morning
              thanx

changing the secondary ray bias (0.0 -> 0.2) had a possitive effect on the rendertime (2:46 -> 2:22)

the light bias didn't change anything, logically because the displacement isnt trowing shadows anymore. (cast shadow off)

                but still trying ....
