I used a brick map to get the tile pattern with splat or speckle as the map for the coloring. The file is not at hand at this moment, when I get in the office I'll post the mats.

Another day in the office. Here is a file with the material file, max file and wood image map. If is doesn't look right on your project it is a scale issue. I used feet, and the pool was to scale, not generic. So you may have to readjust.

          Water Recipe:
1 Plane, segments set to 200x200
          1 noise modifier
          1 standard material, see below

          Water Material Recipe:
          1 standard material
          1 Bump, noise
1 Reflection, VRayMap w/ Fresnel Falloff
          1 Refraction, VRayMap

          NOISE:
          Scale: 10
          Fractal: On
          Roughness: 0

            psy

for the water do I put anything in the diffuse slot? if not its a standard material with what opacity?

also i understand that i put a vraymap in the reflection and refraction slots but where does the fresnel fallof go?

can't seem to open the mat file. Is it max 5? I'm using viz4. Constant bloody headache but I like the ADT to viz file linking.

In any case. I've got a plane that has the noise applied. I have a standard material. diffuse black. and a vraymap in both reflection and refraction slots. what are the % amounts of these and opacity level. I'm just not getting very good results. I must be retarded.

The mat files should be backwards compatible, I would think so at least.

Regardless, here's a pic of all the settings.

Hope it helped, and don't get yourself down, it takes a while to learn the tricks of Vray. That's what this forum is for and why people are here to help.
