  • Brushed metal (sorry, again)

I'm new user. I made my homework, spent almost two days browsing forum(s), trying different user materials, tweaked settings, etc. but without success. I just cannot get it right. I would like to get brushed metal look like in pictures (flat metal plate behind). Can anyone help?

    Tnx,
    Jirzi

You could try to use anisotropy (under VrayMtl-BDRF section) and glossy reflection.

I almost tend to think this could be done with a wave-type noise map in the glossy reflections.

Tnx for your help. I tried a lot with anisotropy, but I couldn't get vertical lines in reflections. I also tried with noise map with different tiling, like suggested in one of the posts here, but it didn't look nice.
I don't want to use bitmap, because of many objects, which all require UV mapping and then tweaking parameters. All objects were imported, so no mapping exists by default.
BTW, what is wave-type noise map?

To anisotropy, you need to have mapping coordinates available I believe.

A very stretched noise map should work however. Can you show what you have so far?

We have gotten pretty good results with the Blur HighlightOnly material

I use a lot of metals in my work so I made some using noise maps (as others have mentioned). I found Neal Blevins tips very useful as well.

              Here's some test renders:

              and

              And Neal's information:

              and

              Hope that helps.

Hey guys, there results are great!!!
Tnx a lot for example, percy and for the links, pixel.
Now, let's experiment. I will post some results, when ready.
I still have to optimize render settings, whole machine renders very slowly.

                  Tnx,
