  • Dear god it's a rubbish Fog tutorial!

    Heya Folks,

A few people have been wondering about fog in vray and how to get the results you want so I've put a tutorial on getting predictable results - I've just realised that my website style sheet is actually really ugly for this amount of text so apologies if it's a little boring looking - I'll get some snazzy borders on there soon enough. Also it was written pretty much off the top of my head so apologies if it's a little unstructured - I might do a better one at some point. Either way it's up there so have a read - hopefully it's useful for some folks.

Thanks John - nicely explained. I've been struggling a lot with this lately, so your tutorial is most welcome.

Cheers - I think I can make it a little more concise and lay it out better though. I'll have to add on the translucency bit in a while too.

                  a very small number

                  J,
Great tutorial but I am left with a question. How do you imput .000XX ? I am only able to input .00X. I also don't see the translucency settings. Are we using different version?

You can change the amount of numbers you can enter in the preferences.

Also the translucency has been in vray for ages. If you download the latest 1.47.03 it will definitly be there. But obviously you need to use a vraymtl not a standard material

                      Heya there,

You need to go to customize > preferences and then you'll see a spinner section on the bottom left. There is a precision control which sets the number of decimal places that your spinners go to - I have this on 5 personally as if you're going to tinier levels of details you might be better off working with physically bigger scenes instead.

As for translucency I'm working on that bit now to get in the new vray fast sss too.

Hey where did the tutorial go to? Or did you take it offline to work on the new version?

Yup - redoing my site for some stupid reason but going to post a video version of it instead since its possibly quicker than editing it on paper. Will be back today or tomorrow.
