You have to leave it at mult=1.0 if you want predictable results, since this is the physically correct way of doing things. You end up having to adjust the exposure using the camera, just as you would in the real world.
Predictable results does not equal control. You cant add more colour to it to change the mood or do anything which isnt defined as 'physically accurate'

He said he wants to take advantage of everything we cant do in the real world, but by using that youre locking your natural light setup into reality and taking away a lot of your ability to be creative.

Dont get me wrong - Its fantastic for quick and reliable renders, but if you want an image to really blow people away and push the boundaries youre seriously limiting what you can do with it.

Theyre not. I really dont think you can compare the subtleties and range of natural light to a maths based solution within CG.

And adding to that, if dave lachappelle could turn the sun off and make his own to do what he wanted, i'm pretty sure he'd never take a shot in natural light again.

Sorry for shitting the thread up, i'll drop it now

Honestly my thought is why use this sun with interiors. No need. I could use the sky material for the shadow fill outside and light it like I would a 1.47 scene. Seems like I could forgo some real world limitations and not have to worry about the dynamic range as a camera sees it. In fact I might not even need the real world camera at all for an example like this that does not make use of a DOF and is limited by a high dynamic range. Easiest solution.

                that s my point exactly!
u have now options were u can stick to an old school lighting thecnics...or u can use the phisical sun sky and camera...

i m just against the idea that this was a step back!

Well, it's not as if we are telling you that you must, at all costs and with risk for your job, use the V-Ray physical sky/sun/cam etc. They are just options, like everything else in V-Ray. If you find that they do not work well for the type of effect you want to achieve, nothing prevents you from doing things in a different way.

                  Best regards,
