  • Animating moving objects - brut force - questions

    Hi,
I've been searching through the forum and got some answers but have a couple of direct questions,
I'm running an animation with moving objects, I've not yet done the http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R...rials_anim.htm
and I'm going through it now.

But I'm considering the brut force method as I do have a bunch of machines at my disposal.
I from the forum it's been suggested that QMC + LC is better than IR + LC. I want to lessen the flickering GI as much as possible.
I'm animating a lift lobby and want to animate the lifts, they are glass and so is all the lobby and I want the sunlight to shine though. I need to do a night shot too, the lifts will have lights on them I'll need to animate them.
The model is fairly heavy with lots of metals, glass and reflections.

What I'm asking is any recommended settings for the GI in this type of situation + any de-flickering Combustion tricks.
    I'm running Max 8.3 and Vray 1.5

    Thanks,
    Richard

richard, QMC/LC will probably be the best thing to use. If your settings are high enough you wont get any flickering. What might be best to do is do some tests and post them up with your settings and that way we could help you out a bit more.

Here is one of the frames, http://www.richardwoolsgrove.com/cad...d=17&pageNum=2
it's a bit noisy. There is some flicker in the animation, kind of acceptable but not great. looks like it's the 2nd bounces that's doing the flickering.
The animation is just going forward into this space, pretty much what you see + a night version on the floor above.
I need to add some exterior and there is still lots of modelling to add, and lots of glass which is all switched off at the moment. I was going to exclude all glass from the GI and make it non shadow casting.

I'm used to using IR + LC so my QMC settings are pretty much default.
      settings are.
      Adaptive QMC
      min 1
      max 4
      use QMC sampler on

      rQMC sampler
      adaptive 0.9
      noise 0.007
      min sam 8
      global subdiv 1
      path sampler default.

      LC
      800
      size 0.1m
      world
      Single frame.

      AA = Adaptive QMC

      I'm working in meters.

      Thanks,
      Richard

        BTW,
frame times for 640x480 approx 20min.
using a range of machines, around the office
        most 3ghz 2meg ram,
        some 1meg ram
        all single chip, some HT

I'd like to get this down but can live with. don't want to go higher though.

Either add more light cache subdivs, or increase the number of filtering samples for the light cache and/or use prefiltering for the light cache.

          Best regards,

            Vlado,
Do you have any recommended settings for the filtering and prefiltering samples. I tried 20 but didn't see a great change.
I've now added glass and more details and now I'm getting noisier images with longer render times, 30 mins +.
            http://www.richardwoolsgrove.com/cad...d=17&pageNum=2

Any suggestion on getting quicker render times, or is this length of render time normal for QMC +LC?

            Thanks,
            R
