what I need is a ice cube that you would fine in a drink, it has to appear denser at the center, and cleaner/more transparent at the edges....any ideas?

i did something like that ages ago, where I stuck an atmospheric gizmo in my ice cube and used the combustion environmental effect to get what your asking about. Took alot of futzing with to look good. Dont have the render anymore unfortunately. good luck!

Someone did one a while ago - I think it was percy that had a glass object with a bit of glossiness, a more white opaque bit inside with more glossiness and a whiter bit again inside that - looked quite nice.
