  • selection floater in max 2009

    I hate the new selection floater in max 2009, it slow to open and just really clunky especially in big scenes.
    If you go to customize, and down to selection floater and assign it (i assigned to H over the 2009 seletion floater so I never have to use it again) you get the old floater back and .... nows it modal you can keep it open and make selections in viewport and and... if you double click an object it shows you that selection in viewport

        the modal thing is cool, but it's not a replacement.
        What if you do 'unhide by name?'.... you get the stupid new select thing which does suck.
        The 'UseSceneExplorer=0' is a replacement however for all selection options.

            Go to-

            C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 64bit\enu\defaults\MAX

            Open this file-
            CurrentDefaults.ini

            Ammend this line-
            [Scene Explorer]
            SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=1

            To be-
            [Scene Explorer]
            SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=0

            Voila!

            In theory it should work in 2010 as well but havent tried

              That has made my day, thanks for the tip... the new crappy select by name in max2009 is truely awful, as said on big scenes it is unbearably slugish

                there's also some macroscript out there to have a toggle button in a toolbar to switch between the two. In case there's any things you need from the new one.

                          and it works...
                          For some reason my 2013 install, installed a load of language versions as well, so I have a ton of extra folders everywhere, very handy...not!

                            You made my day! Worked just fine Why do they put things in different places EVERY release?!?!??! And yes it did! I wonder if it happened with one of the production updates? When i installed it 2 days ago it prompted that prod. update 4 was out and instaled it all together.
