  • Render Region - Creating Complex shaped render regions

    Hi All,

I am sure we have all had to re-render just a section of an image that has updated/changed.....this is a joke!!!..... We ALL have to do it on virtually EVERY Architectural job!

OK...I'll just do a region Render of that part.....only problem is the geometry goes from one corner diagonally to the other corner. You might as well re-render the entire image if you use only the region-render as it is a rectangle and is usless in this situation.

    Solution--

Create a simple flat plane or spline that becomes a mask & leaves only the area you want rendered visible.

    STEPS---

Create simple plane or spline object

Align it to the camera [make sure rotation is ticked]

Move it away from camera slightly [Forward]

Move verts to create mask shape

Assign a Vray Light material with pure black

Turn off --- Visible to reflections, GI, Shadows,,etc ...basically turn off everything except Visible to camera

    ALL DONE

When the render gets to the mask it renders virtually instantly as the material is as simple as it gets ...pure black.

This technique has saved my ass many a time on a tight deadline

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

It may take you 5mins to set-up your mask if the shape is complex but you can save hours of re-render time & I find it is surely worth it.
