  • Automatic displace/height map material.

    Hi All
    I am using the Vray AutoGrass plugin and i want the grass to be longer by the edge of walls, around trees, rocks ect, so I need a map that will adjust the length around these areas.
    I have seen a tutorial a while back showing a map/displacment being automatically created based on the geometry in the scene in relationship to the ground plane, so for example if I move the geometry the map will update.
    The only thing I can think of using the vray dirt map but I cant work it out as in the tutorial the geometry updated in the viewport in realtime.
    As I dont really know the question I am trying to ask I am having no results in google.
    Hopefully somebody knows what I am talking about and is able to help.

      Thanks for the reply.
      I will be using that for my dirt paths for sure thanks, but for my needs regarding the longer grass around objects I dont think it will work for that as i will have to model into my ground plane where I will need the longer grass and if I want to change things it would mean re-modling the ground plane.
      I know that what I am after can be done as I went to a exabition and vray was doing a talk on it I just dont know what its called.
      He took a plane and put a sphere above it and set the sphere not to render. then he did something like add a displacment mod to the plane, setup a material (I can only think it was a vray dirt texture) and fed that into the displacment mod and then where ever he moved the sphere displacement was happening on the plane in the shape of the sphere in the viewport. then he did a grass example but using it in the distribution map, I am hoping to use it in the scale map.
      I will keep searching.

        Try a simple Vray Distance texture....that's what's it made for.
