How to make it with Nodes?

You neen to connect image texture to the env. background:

is there a way to tweak the values of the HDRI images, via curves, or layer modes?
i've searched trough the textures nodes with no luck.

what I'm trying to achieve is to get sharp shadows out of the HDRI by controlling the exposure of the image

I've even tried editting the Image in Photoshop to make it darker, but somehow its not quite the same. and end up with several heavy files

In cycles is quite easy to do:
