Has anybody tried to make the two renders in higher resolution that planned (2x or even 4x), and then down sample to the targeted resolution after Altus has done its magic? Just to get rid of that slightly blurred end result?
I know it is a balance of time, but maybe that approach would work better overall? Just a thought.
I'm sending the renders at 1920 with noise 0.02 and lets see how it turns out, this will give us some space for a average good noise and to downscale, let's try everything at the same time
...and given the subdivs needed, how the time for those two, pluss the denoise pass, compared to doing said high-end render.
i just worry that to get rid of the last bits of wierd softness from the scene, your gonna end up winding the subdivs up higher and higher, until the time savings are not so mind-blowing.
If I understand the concept correctly, we need the noise to be fine in order to capture the detail. The amount of noise is not the problem. A lot of fine noise is better then less but more coarse noise.
So maybe GPU RT with BF/LC would be a good setup? But now I'm just rambling on, sorry...
Here's small hint - to get the best of two worlds - you should try mixing two seeds in PS with 50% (you will get almost twice better pic) and add altus denoised image on top, with some blending. You can get very very good pic.
